Young Consumer Program: Looking Forward To A New Year

We hope you enjoyed your summer and are looking forward to the 2012-2013 school year.  The 2011-2012 Young Consumer Program was the most productive and successful year to date (1998-2012).  Young Consumer participants exceeded 14,000 and that does not include the countless shopping spectators that share the store on the morning of the shopping visit.

Our Cogmotion team, including Steve, Howie, Vicki, Ryan, Michelle and Breanne visited 258 classrooms covering four Mid-Atlantic States (New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware and Pennsylvania).  Family days and nights at the schools attracted more than 5,000 parents and student volunteers to help plan for the store event.  Third and fourth grade students totaling 5,887 shopped and problem solved at their local ShopRite neighborhood supermarket.

We are now in the planning stages for the 2012-2013 school year and are holding a place for your school.  Please confirm your participation in the Young Consumer Program before September 30, 2012.  We need to know the number of classes that will be participating, the grade level and what month or specific dates that will work for the store visit.  Scheduling early will help us reserve the dates that you request.  Please let us know of any changes in your e-mail or contact person.  Be sure to peruse through our NEW website (this website) for information about the program, highlights and new problem challenges.

Our Cogmotion teams, with the help of ShopRite dieticians, are in the process of updating our teacher/parent manual.  This will reflect the new common core standards adopted in 2010 by all four states.  We will continue to translate cognitive based neuroscience research through our problem-solving stations.

Thank you for your participation and a special thank you to our friends at ShopRite and Wakefern.
